Chamcha Market is a popular weekend market in Chiang Mai.

Nestled under the shade of towering rain trees (known locally as Chamcha) in the San Kamphaeng district, Chamcha Market is a charming, bohemian weekend market that offers a refreshing, slow-paced alternative to the bustling night bazaars of downtown Chiang Mai. Located about 20 to 30 minutes east of the city center, this creative community hub is a must-visit for anyone who loves unique handmade crafts, vintage goods, and a relaxed, artistic atmosphere.

Chamcha Market has a lot of handicrafts and local art items. Unlike mass-produced souvenir markets, the stalls here feature curated, high-quality creations from local artists and independent designers. You will find beautifully crafted indigo-dyed clothing, handmade silver jewelry, ceramic homeware, vintage collectibles, and unique home decor. The market is also highly family-friendly, often hosting hands-on workshops where visitors can try making their own crafts, such as hand-painted wooden dishes, scented candles, and custom hair clips.

Dining Highlights: Meena Rice-Based Cuisine

There's nothing much to eat here except Meena Rice-Based Cuisine which is Michelin Bib Gourmand selected. Famous for its signature five-colored rice balls and beautifully presented traditional Northern Thai dishes, this rustic, waterside restaurant is incredibly popular. You will have to wait at least 30 min if you are there after noon. So it's better to book the restaurant first before you finish shopping at Chamcha market. While Meena is the culinary star, you can also find cozy coffee stalls, fresh bakeries, and small local snack vendors scattered throughout the leafy market grounds to keep you energized as you browse.

Tips for Visitors

  • Best Time to Visit: Arrive early in the morning (around 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM) to enjoy cooler weather, softer photography lighting, and a more peaceful shopping experience before the midday crowds arrive.
